Even adult dogs with previous house experience can regress during decompression.

Stress, new smells, and new rules can confuse them—assume they are NOT house trained until proven otherwise. Regression is normal and temporary—it does not mean the dog is failing or that you're doing something wrong.

Step-by-Step House Training

1. Set a Schedule

Take the dog out:

  • First thing in the morning

  • After meals

  • After play

  • After naps

  • Before bed

  • Every 2–4 hours at first

2. Use a Consistent Potty Spot

Same place, same cue ('Go potty'). Praise immediately after they finish—treats are great reinforcement.

3. Supervise Indoors

If you can't supervise, they should be:

  • In a crate

  • Behind a baby gate

  • On leash attached to you

4. Watch for Signals: Sniffing, circling, wandering off—take them out right away.

If Accidents Happen

They will! It's not misbehavior.

Do:

  • Clean with enzymatic cleaner (Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover) to remove odor completely

  • Increase supervision

  • Adjust potty schedule

Don’t:

  • Punish or scold; the dog will only learn to hide accidents
