Moose gets a Job on a Farm

Moose is the official guardian dog of Ellam Farm in Oregon.

Moose is just a kid, found wandering on a desert road by Saving Perris Strays.

This happy guy had been abandoned, like so many others, in rural southern California. His sweet nature and friendly disposition was evident immediately - as soon as he jumped into our rescue partner's car.

After getting a thorough vet check and the ever important snip-snip, Moose headed up to northern California to his foster home.

Great Pyranese are breed to work - often as livestock guardian dogs. They are incredibly loyal and protective of their humans and animal pack. They can also be a bit nocturnal, which was certainly the case with Moose who wanted to let everyone know about the coyotes at two in the morning. Moose was just 10 months old and had never had any training, probably never even lived inside a house prior. All this was new to him, he just went on his instincts. Our dedicated foster realized that the best forever home for Moose was someone that really understood his breed and ideally a ranch or farm where he could embrace his instincts to the fullest.

Enter the power of social connections and Moose's foster connected with a couple looking for a young great pyr for their farm. Of course, we'd never seen Moose around livestock - what if he didn't take to it? His incredible foster found a nearby ranch to bring Moose.

Moost met a llama and even got some kisses. We knew he would be great as a farm guy!

In May, Moose headed to his new home in Redmon, Oregon.

A heartfelt thank you to Love Legacy Rescue and the team for guiding us through the process of finding Moose. After we lost our Great Pyrenees back in March, I shared a heartfelt post on Facebook. Moose’s sponsor saw my post and reached out to suggest Moose as a possible canine companion to help fill that important role on our farm.

Moose has proven to be a perfect fit for the job and is settling into his new role as we begin week three of our farm adventures together. I would gladly recommend Love Legacy Rescue to anyone looking for a future canine companion.
